The marble falls of Marble Falls,
Texas are usually hidden by the waters of Lake Marble Falls, but the
town, located deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, is still one
of the most beautiful spots in the entire state of Texas. Located
in the Highland
Lakes chain, Marble Falls has been a popular town for those who wish to
live amidst the rolling hills and lakes of the Hill Country for a long
time now. Marble Falls is secluded from the urban life, located
47 miles from Austin and 85 miles from San Antonio, making it perfect
for retirement living or for those who simply want to get away from the
hustle-bustle of the city life. With a population of 7,000
people, Marble Falls remains a community for people who enjoy the
familiarity of small town living.
The town got its name from the 20
foot fall on the Colorado River made of marble. This particular
fall is underwater now, because of the dam that creates Lake Marble
Falls, but the rock formations in the area still provide residents and
visitors plenty of spectacular views. The stone monolith that
looms over the town called Granite Mountain is particularly noteworthy,
as it provided the pink granite that was used to build the Texas State
Capitol Building.
The surrounding Hill Country area provides plenty of opportunities for recreation, especially
for fans of the outdoors. Lake Marble Falls is just one of many
options for lakeside fun in the area; there’s also the Highland
Lakes of Buchanan, Inks, LBJ, and Travis. Nearby Enchanted Rock
gives visitors a chance to climb to the top of the second-tallest
granite dome in the U.S., and you can even engage insome minor
spelunking at Longhorn Cavern. There’s plenty of community
events as well, from the LakeFest DragBoat Races to the various Hill
Country winery competitions and tours.
For all that Marble
Falls is popular for its natural beauty, housing and cost of living in
the area is quite affordable, making this an ideal place to raise a
family. With plenty of schools and churches to serve the
community, and plenty of job opportunities as well, Marble Falls gives
its residents the opportunity to live a well-rounded small town Texas
life
